Meta Horizon Creator Competition FAQ
What is the Meta Horizon Creator Program?
The Meta Horizon Creator Program (MHCP) is a community of advanced creators who build games, experiences, and immersive content in Meta Horizon Worlds. MHCP members have access to exclusive benefits, resources, and opportunities to support and enhance their creator journeys. For further questions, please see the program FAQ.
Once I’ve applied, how long will it take before I’m able to join MHCP?
The MHCP team has created an expedited process to review your application faster so you can participate in the competition. If you are accepted, sign the MHCP program terms immediately to expedite your entry into the program. You won’t be eligible for the competition or gain access to the program benefits or tools until the terms are signed.
My application wasn’t successful. Why didn’t I get in?
Creators in MHCP must have an active Meta account, be physically located in a supported country, be over the age of 18, have a record of following policies on Meta platforms, and have a demonstrated history of creating content on Meta Horizon Worlds or other platforms.
Do I have to join MHCP to participate in the competition?
To be eligible to submit an entry and win one of the prizes, you must be a member of MHCP before the submission deadline (December 6, 2024).
How can I sign up as a team so I can work with my collaborators?
To participate in the competition as a team, each member is encouraged to apply for membership in MHCP, which provides access to advanced tools and resources to enhance your collaborative efforts. While non-MHCP members can still contribute to the entry, please note that they may have limited access to certain tools, and the team's entry must be submitted by a world owner who is an MHCP member.
Will technical support be provided during the competition?
We’ll be offering regular office hours, where participants can ask Meta Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) technical questions related to building and programming the worlds they’re creating for the competition. We’ll also have documentation on how to use advanced tools, and we’ll be delivering educational videos on building short-loop mobile worlds. We’ll be providing a channel in the MHCP Discord server exclusively for competition participants, so you’ll have an opportunity to get assistance from other creators as well. If you encounter any bugs or issues, you can use our ticketing system to reach a member of our advanced support team.
Can I submit a world that’s already been released / published?
No, worlds must be newly published during the duration of the competition, and they cannot have been previously entered into any other challenge, sweepstakes, promotion, or competition.
Is there design guidance for building Short Loop Mobile Worlds
Yes, we’ve compiled some best practices and use cases for guidance and inspiration; see “See the "Design Guidance" section in the competition website.
Should I submit my entry for compatibility testing?
You don’t need to. It is not a submission requirement for the world to be reviewed for mobile compatibility, or for the world to meet Playable or Optimized standards, but judging decisions will be made by reviewing worlds across VR and mobile devices. Worlds entered into the competition will be automatically tested for compatibility on mobile and web after the submission deadline. See the “Mobile Compatibility Review” section in the “technical requirements” section on the competition website.
Can I continue to work on my world after it’s submitted?
As soon as the competition winners have been announced, you can publish updates to your world.
Can I get feedback on my entry?
Due to the high volume of submissions, Meta may not be able to provide direct feedback to creators during the competition. However, we encourage all participants to utilize the competition Discord channel to ask other participants and creators to playtest their worlds and provide feedback.
How will prizes be awarded to teams?
Meta has partnered with an external vendor, Enteractive Solutions Group (ESG), to manage prize fulfillment for winners. The vendor will contact all winners within two weeks of the announcement to initiate the verification and fulfillment process.
Should we build for mobile only and disregard the VR experience?
Worlds will be judged across mobile and VR devices. This is a mobile-themed competition and not a mobile-only competition. Judges will be evaluating a world holistically, and a world that doesn’t work in VR is unlikely to score high in the competition based on the judging criteria.
Can I work on my own personal submission and collaborate on another?
Yes, you can. You may enter as an individual and/ or as a member of a Team, but each individual may be a member of only one Team (i.e., you may submit one or more individual entries and one or more entries as a member of a Team, but you may not be a member of more than one Team
Can an entrant submit more than one entry?
An Entrant may submit more than one Entry, however, each Entry must be unique and substantially different from each of the Entrant’s other Entries, as determined by the Sponsor and Devpost in their sole discretion.
Can my entry win multiple prizes?
An entry is limited to one prize only.
Is it required to be a world made for consumption in Meta Horizon Worlds using the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor tool?
The recommended tool for building in the competition is the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor. However, creators are allowed to use the VR Editor for making minor or major changes if needed, but the desktop editor is preferred.
Can I publish a world from a different platform that I own on Horizon in the competition? Is that considered eligible for the competition?
The official rules require a world to be newly published on Horizon, so a creator may publish a world they own on another platform to enter the competition, and it will be considered new on Horizon. Please note that all the other entry requirements still apply, including that the world is original to the entrant.
Is there any Genre that is not eligible for this contest? (IE could a world in a different genre than the main 5 still win a special award)
Please be aware that only entries within the 5 designated genres are eligible to win. We encourage all participants to submit their work under one of these categories to ensure consideration.
Sharing the winning prize with others?
It will be the responsibility of the winning Entrant’s Representative to allocate the prize among their Team’s participating members, as the Representative deems appropriate without involvement of Sponsor.
